Due to the recent rallies and arguably "bubble valuations", has anyone taken say 2 or even 3 years out of the portfolio so they can run on cash if it were to dip? Better than pulling 4% from a portfolio that got split in half.

Just an idea

You mean market timing?  This is a 30-page thread dedicated entirely to making fun of that concept!

I wonder how many posters will be in this thread if we have a 20% correction.

You better believe that if/when there's a 20% drop these hills will be alive with the sound of thorstach crowing about his market timing skills and hawking his bouncy dead cats for anyone who wants to sell all their shares to buy one. Some of us may not return daily for that scene, but rest assured that the the top will eventually roar back, so will we, and so will the live bouncy cats.

thorstache learned very well from the religious cults.  When the date of your prediction of doom comes and goes without incident, just move your prediction to a later date!  l

The indexes are poised to post 12 consecutive months of gains in a single calendar year for the first time in history.

Are we getting tired of so much winning yet?

I'd like to apologize to Tonyahu, as on the thread http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/investor-alley/i-don't-believe-in-the-4-rule-anymore/ ,  Tonyahu is getting hassled for NOT market timing.  Tonyahu has a large bitcoin position, and nearly everyone says "the bitcoin top is in, run for the hills".

Well if it does not recover you know when you should have sold! I don't get it, why can't people follow simple instructions and sell at the top? Buy low (at the bottom), sell high (at the top)! Simple. Real simple.

I cant follow instructions and sell my bit coins... because I forgot to buy them...

I don't have 40 years market experience yet but I remember the pain of the asian flu, dot com bubble and etc.......good news is my wife and I have been living on my military retirement since 2013 and banking all of our other income so our investments are there to leave a legacy for the kids/grandkids or if I hit my dream number a 1962 GTO. So a bear market is just another chance to buy bargains............(living on retirement means there's money left over, currently I love my job so we've be OMY)

You must have a huge dream number... I'm assuming you're talking about the Ferrari 250 GTO and not the Pontiac GTO (which was not built in 1962)

By my count, we opened this morning at a new YTD high, and since then we've put in eleven new tops over the course of the day.  But the Google ticker only gives you updates every five minutes, so I probably missed a whole bunch.

SP500 up 0.83% today - given than this trend will continue throughout the year we can expect the SP500 to be up 209% by year's end.  SP500 will smash right through the 5,000 barrier - buckle up baby!  I'm ordering my model S tomorrow...
