Title: To exchange vanguard funds or not...
Post by: wellnessmobile on April 08, 2020, 10:09:08 AM
Hmm, COVID times are strange.

Thoughts on below:

VFFVX: current info

total invested - $30,704.82
market value - $28,732.54
short term loss: (-) 269.47
long term loss: (-) 1,702.82
expense ratio .15%

**I was thinking about exchange this entire fund to add to my VTSAX. Sensible?

VTSAX = $36,700 current balance

My average cost per share of VTSAX is 73.33 and the current market is around 64.

Would I actually be losing the (-) $1,972  from VFFVX or be winning in the long term due to decreasing my cost per share in VTSAX and reducing the expense ratio?

1) What is your desired asset allocation (https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Asset_allocation), and how would this exchange affect it?
2) Are you familiar with tax loss harvesting (https://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Tax_loss_harvesting)?

Asset allocation is around 95% stock / 5% bonds. It would be similar and not much of a concern of mine. I'll be leaving my money in for quite awhile.

Yes, I am familiar (no expert) with tax loss harvesting and will be doing it for the first time during next tax season.

Appears you have answered your own question - well done and good luck!
