Questrade - IQ Essentials not adding up
« on: June 12, 2015, 08:18:36 AM »
Has anyone else noticed that the P/L and market value columns of IQ don't always add up on questrade? Am I just missing something in how it calculates?

I have only just begun the QT journey, so please forgive me if I am asking the dumb newb questions here, but this bothers me its only pennies now, but I am a mighty power like the rest of you, that will be magnified - which is cause for concern to me.

So on may 15th, I bought 48 VAB.TO at a unit price of $25.93.

48*25.93 = 1244.64. QT and I agree on this price (Yay!)

As of when I started writing this email, VAB.TO was valued at $25.70 per unit.
48*25.70 = 1233.60.

If I take the difference of those two, I get a loss of $11.04
QT shows a loss of $10.56

That's $0.48 cents difference - almost exactly a penny per unit. Yet, through the day this difference fluctuates. I would say it was third decimal rounding, except that a full penny per share would show up in the price. Does QT include fees or something in its calculations that I'm not seeing?

FWIW, this is happening across the board on my account. Sometimes everything matches exactly, but more often than not, 2 of the 3 ETF's I'm in have a fluctuation between the P/L shown by QT and the one I calculate on my spreadsheet. Any ideas?

You can set it up to display "Total cost" and "Mkt value" columns.
Difference between them should be equal to "P&L open" column.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
