Oh the media.

It breaks my heart that articles like this are what most people - if they are lucky enough to even read them - have as their knowledge of financial information.

So if I've got this right, people who make a lot of money giving financial advice aren't fond of a philosophy that says that spending lots of money on financial advice is a bad idea.  Not exactly shocking.  Next they're going to tell us newspaper ad salespeople don't like craigslist, or that drummers don't like drum machines.

"Investing" in hedge funds?  Are they for real?

And I really enjoyed this comment:

“If the stock market has a significant drop such as in 2008, your index funds are going to plummet unless you have an exit plan in place,” Ms. Pinkowski says.

Yeah, my "exit plan" is not to panic sell when the market drops, and (if I can) to buy more when it does.

Exactly. That "exit plan" has nicely added to my bottom line over the last few years.
