Rebalancing investments after finding MMM
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:26:59 AM »
So - after finding MMM a few months ago, I am wondering if/when/how to rebalance our investments.  Prior to MMM we had some index funds as well as other ETF's and a few individual stocks.  Our individual stocks have done very, very well.  I understand this is not the "norm" and is not to be expected to continue.  So what do we do?  Sell and buy Vanguard Index funds?  Keep until?

All of our "new: investment $ goes into one of the Vanguard funds, mostly to Vanguard Total Index, some to Vanguard Dividend Fund or Emerging Markets.

For anyone interested - individual stocks are Google (purchased years ago, up >200%) and Tesla (up >200%). Money is in IRA's, can buy/sell etc without tax consequences.

Other investments - Berkshire B, Russel 1000 Value, Russel 1000 Growth, Vanguard Bond, few others.

Take the gains and run? Or keep it for??

Thanks in advance

Didn't you answer your own question?

Thanks for the reply.  No tax consequences - they are in sheltered accounts.  Considering selling them.

Sorry, I was being a little bit facetious in the previous post. Yes, you definitely should sell and add the corresponding money in index funds. For the reasons that you explained yourself.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
