Should I move my American Funds to VG?
« on: December 02, 2018, 02:06:53 PM »
I made an error several years ago and out my SEPs into American Funds (2% load fee .8 ER). It represents approx 10% of my portfolio (rest is in vanguard). I haven’t moved it with the thinking that I already paid the load fees, and their funds are fairly solid.  Also it’s a small percentage of my stache so figured a small stake in managed funds might offer a bit of diversification.  Thoughts ? Should I move them to vanguard?

As loaded, managed, mutual funds go, American Funds are generally pretty good .  If you can move them to Vanguard I would just because I'm a firm believer in consolidating the number of financial firms you deal with.  Unless VG's policy has changed the last few years they don't generally handle other companies mutual funds, so practically I think it means selling the American funds and rolling them over to Vanguard.

Yes, I would. You've already paid the load, but 0.8% is still a pretty high ER.
