Help with my 401k (pretty please)
« on: September 15, 2016, 01:56:26 PM »
I'm not sure if anyone can help me with allocating my 401k, but I figured I would ask and find out.

I just started a job with a 401k. I'm 28, married and my spouse and I have stable jobs. Here are the fund options for the 401k:

Stable Income Fund - .32% fee - 3.5% 10 year ROR
Bond Fund - .29% fee - 4.6% 10 year ROR
Equity Index Fund (aka S&P) - .05% fee - 7% 10 year ROR
Global Socially responsible Index Fund - .08% fee - 2.3% 10 year ROR
Mid-cap Equity Index Fund- .07% fee - 6.6% 10 year ROR
International Equity Fund - .42% fee - 1.3% 10 year ROR
Small-cap Equity Index Fund- .46% fee - 6.5% 10 year ROR

Given that I'm still under 30, I'm thinking of going 50% Equity Index and 50% Mid-cap so that I can keep my fees low.

Thoughts?

I've split mine 4 ways, SP500, International, Mid-Cap & Small Cap.   It's up to you.  But I made my biggest holding the international at around 35%, Did SP500 for 30%, Small Cap at 20% and Mid Cap the remaining 15%.  I like having exposure International and to smaller companies (I see the fees are higher but I like having the diversification even if the fees are somewhat higher), adjust accordingly if you have different preferences.  Just stay with  the low fee index funds.
