"rolling over" a roth ira to the roth tsp?
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:51:58 AM »
So I am heavy into index funds costing me 1.06%. That's stupid so I am going to transfer the whole account to Vanguard, but even that is .17% vs the TSP's .029%, so I am going to up my TSP contribution from 10k to 18k and liquidate the principle in my IRA's lockstep.

No reason not to do this right?

Any other tips on tsp?

The difference between .17 and .029 isn't that huge on a returns basis.
Many vanguard funds can break <.1% fees.
Vanguard funds have more options available.
For the love of god, don't invest -only- in the G fund.

It's your money, and don't think that any of the words I just said matter much in the end, because you're basically choosing between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. Either way, they're freaking sweet.

I know the big savings is realized now with the 1.06 to .17 drop, but figured why not take it farther while my income is still low (I invest 30% save 10%, and enjoy 60% (well whats left of 60% after taxes).

I'm a lazy investor, set it and forget it. I'd do either the C fund or the L2050 fund with the TSP and something similar with vanguard.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
