Question about Fidelity 401k and Personal Capital
« on: October 22, 2018, 07:44:20 AM »
So, I signed up for Personal Capital last week and loaded in my investment accounts. First thing I noticed, the balance was off by quite a bit from what Fidelity was reporting and what Personal Capital was reporting. I have everything in my current 401k in the Target 2040 fund, so it should be easy to get to the bottom of it. Personal Capital has the number of shares correct, but the balance is quite a bit less than what Fidelity is reporting.

Then I notice that Personal Capital lists the ticker as "AAGTX". American Funds Target 2040. That doesn't sound right. Why are they pulling the wrong ticker? I go back to my 401k, and can't find the ticker listed anywhere. I then google "Fidelity Target 2040 Fund" and it gives me the ticker "FFFFX".  But that price is even further away from what my 401k is reporting.

So what is the deal here? Is this some type of specialized 401k Retirement fund with no ticker? I feel like I'm missing something simple here.
Why can I not find the ticker symbol anywhere on the website or on the statements?
And why does Personal Capital convert it to American Funds?
Kind of makes Personal Capital useful as a financial snapshot.

NAV
401k lists      $17.32
AAGTX          $15.16
FFFFX           $10.24

My Fidelity 401k is off in PC as well.  For some reason, they do not show the employer match for my account.  I can't figure out how to correct PC to track it correctly.

I initially thought that was the issue as well. But after adding up all the shares from the different vested/401k/roth 401k breakdowns, they matched.

It was then I noticed that Personal Capital listed it as AAGTX American Funds, which I knew couldn't be correct.

Just checked my 401k and Personal Capital accounts and it looks correct- the balances match exactly for each of the funds I have. Have you contacted their support team? You might also be able to disconnect/reconnect it to fix it, but I don't know if that would cause you to lose the historical data for the account.
