Proper diversification blend - 30 year old
« on: October 02, 2019, 08:07:41 AM »
Hey!

My wife and I max out our 401ks...hers is in the vanguard total stock market index and mine in a sp500 index.

I also max out my HSA and am thinking of diversifying there for a little more coverage.

Does something like this make sense?

70 - vstsx
15- vanguard global equity
15 - vanguard reit

If not, anything else you’d consider?

Your proposal is fine.  Personally, I wouldn't do the REIT as it's already in VSTSX.  How much would you have invested in total?  I tend to say that if it's less than $100k, don't even look at diversification.  Put it all in US equity at low cost and be done with it until you exceed the $100k mark.  Then think about what you want to do.  Write down an investment statement of exactly what you plan to do, when to change % and stick to it.
