On Staying Optimistic
« on: October 13, 2018, 01:43:00 PM »
I've gotten a kick out of reading old forum posts / blog comments where people are especially negative on returns within the last 5-10 years. At the height of the recession we had bargain basement deals on stocks across the board. Having the benefit of hindsight we can see just how well different funds performed over the 10 year period. I'm sure we're due for some short-term corrections but overall I feel better than ever about picking up VTSAX shares and watching my money grow over the next 20 years.

I am not a stock expert. I invest in HYIPs early on. Some of them are pyramids and disappear, but until that time I am reaching profitability. Some do not disappear, but making a profit.

This product is not designed to hold the door. The maximum that you can do is stretching the cable and attaching a curtain to it, but the curtain is not a door.

But haven't you heard?

Just like in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, next year the market WILL crash!

Exactly.

And don't forget, whichever market did the best over the last 10 years will always continue to do best into the future. Past returns are the best indication of future returns.

Isn't it obvious?  The door is hidden behind the curtain.  You can only reveal the door by motorcycling the doghouse with pancakes.

Only to discover the door wasn't a door at all, but a window, a window into madness.  By stretching the cable, you embrace this madness and open the curtain, which is an industrial hatch to your mind cavern.

We've actually already had a >10% correction earlier this year.

I wish we could mark a topic for deletion -- seems the trolls are out in full force.
