Anyone looked into the effects of demographics on markets?

I have been reading the works of Harry Dent

I find it interesting the similarities in the spending patterns of populations and how it effects their markets.

I have but drawing conclusions and making investment dececisions based on it has eluded me so far.  The boomer population retiring will have a tremendous impact on demand for stocks, housing, and healthcare much of which can be negative.

On the other hand, the echo boomers/millenials are of equal size to to the boomer population and if they can get going better on employment and housing then that can be a tremendous plus.

Those of us straddled between these two generations are somewhat at their mercy.

Why yes, I have.  It's my primary rebuke of any and all attempts to link the current economic state of the U.S. to that of Japan 20 years ago.  The growth potential of the country is still rather enormous.
