Newbie vanguard help
« on: February 17, 2017, 04:41:25 PM »
I'm so sorry in advance.  I'm sure this is a ridiculous question.  I recently opened a Roth IRA on Vanguard with $3,500.  Then I bought $3,500 of a Retirement plan mutual fund that states it invests its fund 90% equities, 10% bonds. But on Vanguard my portfolio shows I have 50% in short term reserves.  But all of my $3500 is in the mutual fund.  Does that mean the fund is keeping 50% in reserves?  And why?

Hmm that's odd. Maybe the transaction didn't go through yet?

Someone else will chime in I'm sure.

I was auto enrolled into a target retirement fund and recently switched to lower fee index funds. Read JLcollins stock series if interested. Highly recommend his book, simple path to wealth, as well.

If you are referring to the asset mix, that usually takes a day or so to update after a purchase is made.  Check again once the transaction has been completed and it should have correct to the proper assets mix.

In my experience, Vanguard has excellent customer service - I'd try calling their customer service phone number and asking them about it!

Thanks!  Yes, it seems it just took a few days after posting to update.  It was showing the $3500 still in reserves and the same $3500 in the fund. It has now updated, showing the 90/10 profile that I expected.
