Title: Need some advice
Post by: theshape on May 22, 2015, 11:45:37 AM
I have a Sharebuilder account with 5 individual stocks with a value of over 12k.

Stocks are Apple, AMC, Disney, Wells Fargo, and Yahoo and I have held them for over a year. I was automatically investing with one of the companies per month which cost $2.00 to trade and it has done well so far.

I have 401k with Fidelity which I contribute enough to get employee match.
I have a IRA Roth with Vanguard using their 2045 Target retirement fund which I contribute to the max each year.

I have always read that it is better to invest in an index fund than individual stocks.

Should I transfer it over to Vanguard and invest in an LifeStrategy fund or another index fund? Or just stick to want I am doing?

In general you want much more diversity than 5 stocks will give you. So that's why people recommend index funds. And Vanguard is the best provider of low-cost funds. I generally recommend moving the money to Vanguard.
