Title: Need help regarding 401 k account from previous employer
Post by: Mrwannabemmm on October 15, 2015, 09:11:07 PM
I have two different 401 accounts from previous employers . One with fidelity and another with transamerica.

I have no idea about how those are being allocated buy since I have heard lot of great things about vanguard ...just to keep things simple I want to roll over both of those to vanguard retirement fund.

Is this a good move ? How do I allocate the funds with vanguard once they are moved over. Please advice , I am a novice in this and have lost a lot of money due to my complacency with managing my money due to lack of information .

https://investor.vanguard.com/401k-rollover/ seems appropriate for you.

Some "getting started" reading material:
www.etf.com/docs/IfYouCan.pdf
http://jlcollinsnh.com/stock-series/
http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/the-mmm-reading-list/ - Haven't read them all, but A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel and The Four Pillars of Investing by William Bernstein were good.
Last but not least: http://www.bogleheads.org/wiki/Category:Getting_started

Or just put it all into VTTSX and forget about it for years - that is actually a reasonable approach if you are comfortable with the 90/10 stock/bond allocation and don't want to spend time rebalancing multiple funds.
