Low fee IRA?
« on: January 26, 2014, 06:11:35 AM »
I've been digging into the archive, using the search bar to research topics I want to learn about. Great info. It'll take me many long mornings to get through it all.

I am finally able to start investing money (vs just paying debt) and was wondering about traditional IRA vs Roth IRA. Someone linked to a good article that sorted me out: http://www.madfientist.com/traditional-ira-vs-roth-ira/

But here's my question: if I've decided I want to invest in a traditional IRA to help me lower my current taxable income, does anyone have suggestions which one to buy? Vanguard seems to be highly prized around here because of the low fees they charge. I read about how the fees really into into any profit the fund makes. Want to avoid that.

Anyone care to share where they got their traditional IRA?

Jay

Ill answer my question, but then ask another question. I see that you can open an IRA account easily at Vanguard: https://investor.vanguard.com/what-we-offer/iras/steps-to-open-an-ira

So can you just pick any mix of index funds you want with low fees? Like this?
        •   Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX)
   •   Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund (VGTSX)
   •   Vanguard Total Bond Market Fund (VBMFX)
   •   Total international bond index fund
