Title: Look at the Euro go
Post by: bballfreakunc on March 06, 2015, 07:47:58 AM
Now would be the time to go to Europe with the Euro almost at parity with the dollar.

I've got a trip to Italy planned in April.  This will be a lot cheaper than a trip I took to Germany in 2006 when I think it was ~$1.70 per euro

I hope it stays low for a few months. I'm getting a Chase Sapphire Preferred and need to hit their bonus and have it posted before I book my free trip to Europe.

Nice!

I've got a trip in April to Korea and Japan. I'm staying with family in Korea, so my expenses there will be pretty low. I'll be in Japan by myself, so I'll be paying for everything myself there. It's great to see the yen at a low point - 1 USD = 120 JPY right now. Whereas in July it was about 100 JPY, in October around 106 JPY, and by the end of November it hit 117 JPY.

Yay for cheap yen! It's great b/c I've read a few travel blogs that gave cost estimates, and they wrote that the exchange rate was 80 JPY at the time, so I can cut those cost estimates by 1/3!

It's quite possible it goes down for a while. With Europe beginning QE and the US possibly raising rates, we could see continued strength in the dollar vs the Euro. Of course, anything can happen and my prediction is no better than a coin flip.
