I have my accounts with TD Ameritrade as well. The commission free ETFs are nice. You just have to remember not to sell a lot within 30 days or you get a $19.99 frequent trading fee. I got hit with this when I did some tax loss harvesting last year but I wrote them and told him I made a mistake and would they have mercy on me aNd they refunded the fee as a courtesy.
I got charged the fee once in an IRA because I thought I was after 30 days but I was on the 30th day. They wouldn't refund the money when I asked them to.
However...in my recently opened self directed brokerage account for my 401k, I forgot to enroll for the commission free ETFs (thought I had but that was in my 457 SDBA). I made 5 purchases before realizing I was getting charged a fee and they refunded the commission fees on all 5 trades after I explained I forgot to sign up.
I'm happy with the ETFs they offer. The only one I would rather have would be VXUS instead of VEU because its 0.01% cheaper. But to make things simple with my overall portfolio, I also now invest in VEU in my Vanguard accounts.
