Limit my options in favor of no comission?
« on: May 08, 2017, 11:30:47 PM »
Hi,

(First of all, excuse my English, it's not my native language)

I need some guidance and advice...

I live in Europe and therefore my only options for Vanguard index funds is to buy Vanguard ETFs for a 0,25% comission.

However, I also have the option to buy a limited selection of Ishare ETFs comision-free and on fully automated "buy each month" basis via my borker service.
I am tempted by the idea to have my investing automated like that but I am not sure if the limited options of what specific Ishare ETFs I can use makes it worth it...

These are the Ishare ETFS i can use on "full auto" and comission free:

Global
(EUNL)   iShares MSCI World UCITS ETF
(IQQ0)   iShares MSCI World Minimum Volatility UCITS ETF

Europe
(EUN0)   iShares MSCI Europe Minimum Volatility UCITS ETF
(EUNK)   iShares MSCI Europe UCITS ETF

US
   (SXR8)   iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF
(IBCK)   iShares S&P 500 Minimum Volatility UCITS ETF
(QDVD)   iShares MSCI USA Dividend IQ UCITS ETF
(IUSA)   iShares S&P 500 UCITS ETF

(I also have a few options for Asia market and few for emerging markets)

So, I can't figure out if it would be worth limiting my options like this...

Do you think I can make a viable/(not to foolish) investment portfolio using theese Ishare ETFs instead of using the "standard"  Vanguard ETF setup?
And if so, do you think it would be worth it? (considering its comission free)

Is the 0.25% on top of the normal expense ratio on Vanguard funds? Is the 0.25% a one-time commission or yearly? 0.25% commission isn't that bad so consider the Vanguards funds if you want further diversification than the iShare ETFs can provide. Those iShare ETFs look fine but limited in selection like you said.

The 0,25% is a "one time" fee on each purchase..
Yes, its the diversification I really can't decide...

It woult be nice to set up the invesments to be made automatically though..

most ishare etfs are as cheap or cheaper than the equivalent vanguard funds. They invest in almost identical ways. I'd go with the ishares.

It depends on the increments you buy in.

The ishares world is better if you're buying monthly.  If you have a lump sum, Vanguard is better.

Both are good options

I see,

thank you for the replies. I'll be investing monthly and I guess it leans towards the ishares...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
