Title: Investment for 65 retired year old couple
Post by: wallabyjoe on August 09, 2015, 07:54:51 PM
My parents are retired and have a perfectly adequate income from a pension plus social security. However, they just got a ~$50k inheritance and don't really know what to do with the money. As they don't actually need the money, an aggressive investment (high stock percentage) would seem appropriate; however, they've never really invested in their entire lives (this is the most liquid cash they've ever had) and I fear they won't have the stomach for a overly volatile strategy. Anyway, I'm looking for a preferably one fund solution for them (two maybe, three is pushing it). Any recommendations?

Vanguard managed payout fund?  Or Wellesley Income fund?

I would choose something simple from this list that meets their needs: https://investor.vanguard.com/mutual-funds/vanguard-mutual-funds-list?assetclass=bal

My favorite for a retired couple who NEEDS the income would be the Wellesley Income Fund. But if they won't need this money, then it might be best to invest it based on the age of who it could be left to in the future.
