Investing in Solar with Wunder Capital
« on: November 02, 2016, 03:44:16 AM »
I have been hearing ads on some of the podcasts I listen to about Wunder Capital, and I was wondering if anyone here has looked into the company or had experience with them.

Some background from quick reading - it essentially gives investors an interface to invest in solar energy projects. They claim to charge no fees with fully-managed funds and give a return of "up to 8.5%" annually on one of the funds. It seems a little bit like Lending Club but for solar energy projects. Let me know what you all think.

It's for accredited investors only and illiquid. Investors are essentially making indirect loans to businesses that install solar panels.  Apparently, traditional sources of financing won't make these loans.

The large US-based solar companies are struggling mightily due to competition from low oil prices and cheap Chinese solar manufacturers.

I have no idea exactly where Wunder gets its products or who installs and maintains them. It seems like a middleman operation that the banks won't touch.
