Title: Investing for my kids??
Post by: bpage12 on April 26, 2019, 03:05:27 PM
I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old.  I was wondering what you guys thought would be best for them in the future?  My two options are start now in a UTMA account or wait until they have some earned income at age 12 or so and open up a Custodial Roth IRA?

Why not both?

I opted to open an account at Fidelity to try their free stock market fund.  We/they invest monthly as part of their allowance and eventually, when eligible, I will move them into a Roth.

Thanks blueberries! What kind of account did you open? Is it an easy transition into a Roth?

I opened an individual account under my name and they invest in FZROX (total stock market fund).  They are quite young, but when the time comes, they will have individual Roth accounts and I will split the individual account equally between them.
