Fidelity ishares etfs?

Hey guys,

So I'm starting to get my feet wet with ishares ETFs and just purchased about $20k worth of DVY for starters. I have another $20k left to spare - what would be some other good funds to get started with? S&P500 (IVV, IVE, or IVW) funds? Barclays? I just want something that will provide some reasonable growth at least in a year or two as this is more of an intermediary fund for a potential home down payment and or car payment. At the very least, it'll just be a 'rainy day' fund.

Any tips?

I've had some good luck with the ishares REIT, IYR. It's up quite a bit this year ~20%, and if the stock market is going to tank, likely real estate would be a good hedge. Plus it pays a decent dividend.

Lol, a REIT ETF is going to be a hedge from the market tanking?

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I certainly wouldn't expect it to work out that way.

Agreed.  Studies have shown REITs tend to move with the market as a whole.

Your core iShares ETFs should be:
ITOT (Total US Stock Market)
IXUS (Total International Stock Market)
AGG (Total Bond Market)

Then you could "spice" up your portfolio with an additional allocation to any of the following:
IJS (Small-Cap Value)
IWC (Micro-Cap)
IYR (REITs)
SCZ (International Small-Cap)
IEMG (Emerging Markets)

But before you invest, it matters what your other investment accounts have and what your investment policy statement says for your asset allocation.

Of those mentioned so far, stick to IVV. Expanding internationally might also be a good idea.
