Any other Vanguard funds besides VTSAX?
« on: December 04, 2017, 08:18:36 AM »
We rolled over DH's previous employer 401k to Vanguard and I'm wondering if we should just put it all into VTSAX or if there are other funds we should consider. Right now, he has his IRA all in VTSAX (admiral shares of VTSMX), and basically all of the rest of our investments are in FUSVX (Fidelity's version of VTSAX) or VIIIX (institutional shares).

Basically, if you had around $30k to throw into Vanguard funds today, what would you do and why?

If it helps, our goal is to be able to cut back to part time or fully retire in around 10-15 years. We are both 36.

I would review my overall asset allocation and determine if I wanted to throw it all into stocks or into a combination of stocks and bonds. I'd also consider where I already had money in Vanguard to see if I could take advantage of lower fees by pushing up a balance to the point where they cost decreases.

And I would give this a read, too:

Good luck!

If you're eligible to deduct IRA contributions, try to get those IRA shares up to VTSAX level ($10k). From there, invest according to your plan. If you don't have a plan, take a couple hours to sit down and hash one out as a couple.

Oh, sorry, I think I flipped this. We do have it in VTSAX. I'll edit my post.
