Extra non-existant Vanguard account showing up in Mint?
« on: March 23, 2018, 08:14:38 PM »
For the last couple of days I have had an extra Vanguard account showing up in my Mint account summary -- but when I click through to the investment page, it isn't there.  It is throwing off my Net Worth balance by over $200k.  I think it is probably a duplicate of one of my other accounts with the balance as of a couple of days ago (now different by around 10k, sigh...), but it isn't showing the red error dot and the last status update on that subaccount is within a few minutes (same time as all other accounts).

I was hoping someone had magically gifted me 200k+ in another rollover IRA, but it doesn't show up on my Vanguard page.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing similar issues with their Vanguard accounts.  I know it should be possible to hide this particular subaccount if it doesn't go away, but as with many things Mint's user interface is incredibly clunky and it is hard to figure out which one it is on the list.  I miss the old yodlee moneycenter interface.  Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and pay for Tiller after all....

I had the same thing happen to another retirement account with Fidelity. I marked the "incorrect" one (the one that was not updating) as Inactive. After about 3 weeks, the Inactive one stopped showing up in Trends Report.

Mint misses or double counts things all the time, usually just for a few days. Totally screws up my graphs. At least it's free. Don't get me started on Zillow.

This happens all the time. Mints official answer is that you go into your account settings, rename the fake account DUPLICATE, and then mark it to hide it everywhere. Itís very annoying. Over the years I have amassed at least seven erroneous duplicate accounts. They are just chilling in my full account list as duplicate chase, duplicate IRA, etc.

The last time I asked Mintís help team about it, thy said there was nothing I could do to clear them off the list so I just have to live with the hiding option.

I have had 3 ghost duplicate Vanguard accounts appear in Mint over the years, definitely annoying. Check the transition history to see which is the imposter and mark it duplicate.

More annoying is that periodically it duplicates my mortgage and keeps the past transactions on the old account and new ones in the duplicate, so the only solution is to label the old one Closed. So there are these crazy spikes in my net worth history from the months where it thinks I had double mortgage.

Personal capital used to be even worse but is slowly improving.

I thought I was the only one. I've deleted so much data history trying to get rid of the duplicates. Seems like it happens every 6 months.

Me too.  No # though.

Whats worse and more heart flutter inducing is when my brokerage account shows zeros instead of 6 figures. Then I refresh my login and its right again.

Same here. Currently happening with Vanguard every couple of weeks it seems like. And like alanB, the NEW account is getting new transactions, not the old one. So I can mark the old one as "closed" to keep the transaction history, but it still messes up the Net Worth and other trends unless I completely hide it. And then I lose the transaction history. Ugh.

I recently signed up for Personal Capital and I agree their interface is better than Mint. Unfortunately it doesn't support a couple of our accounts that Mint supports, and my dear wife is very resistant to switching due to the years of history in Mint. However PC has MUCH better investment tracking tools, like figuring out your asset allocation. I may end up using PC just for our investment accounts and leaving Mint around for total net worth and spending. Of course with PC you have to ignore their constant calls to sign up for their management service.
