Emerging Markets Mutual Fund for Roth IRA
« on: December 04, 2018, 05:40:39 PM »
Hello forum,

Any thoughts on emerging markets?  They've had a rough ride, but I'm interested in the potential. At least in my ROTH IRA.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, global market weight in them seems like a good idea. You can even overweight them if it makes you happy, but probably try and keep them below 25%. 25% is what I currently use... time will tell if I was wise or dumb.

BEtterment weights mine at like 15% seems good to me.

Its risky. You are investing in countries like turkey and china. Who knows how they will do in the future. But there is no reason to think they will not improve as well.

I overweight them.  Lately, that hasn't worked out.  Hopefully it will work out in my favor in the future, but nobody knows for sure.  The key is to pick an asset allocation and stick to it.  Investing in EM isn't something you want to just dabble in, or you'll probably get burned and get out, missing the hot streaks.

VEMAX is a perfectly good fund to achieve this (or VWO, or IEMG if you're buying ETFs).

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
