Also would be a violation of the 27th amendment to the Constitution, so Congress couldn't do that even if they passed such a law.

While technically true that they can't give "themselves" a raise, the reelection rate in Congress is so high it might as well be the same thing.

Right.  But I sincerely doubt Congress would try something that blatantly unconstitutional.  Maybe I'm naive.

Congress also doesn't get special free health care.  They don't get paid their salary for life once they retire. They do have to pay into SS if elected after the early 1980s. They don't give themselves big raises nearly as often as people think.  Etc etc etc.

People believe all kinds of crazy stuff about Congress. And it's all very easy to fact-check.
