countries ranked by equity market cap?

is there a list somewhere online where it lists all the countries ranked by global total market cap. obviously we all know USA is number 1 but im wondering where UK and the likes stand.

Also is it a smart choice to make up my portfolio of indexes in terms of the countries total market cap. so say if USA is 60% of total market cap my portfolio would contain 60% USA funds

Just buy a fund or ETF that tracks the all world index and this is done automatically for you.  U.K. Is < 10% of all world index.

Local rag Sydney Morning Herald used to publish a list annually of top 100 "economic entities"

It would put countries GDP and companies with their market cap in the same table.

There were more many more companies on the list than countries...

mohawkbrah...you may find that your allocation to Apple and Google is bigger than allocations to most parts of the world...

Interesting how the size of the market cap is disconnected from the size of the economy / GDP / etc
It really tracks = size of country * how closely businesses match the US market model

forummm is correct.  If you're curious how some of the ties (France 3.0% Canada 3.0%) work out, you can look at VXUS, the ex-US stock index:

That removes the 53% allocation to US, so gives a little more granularity on the remaining countries.
