Vanguard cost basis unavailable
« on: February 27, 2020, 09:13:21 AM »
I'm checking in for TLH opportunities and am very frustrated at Vanguard right now. All specific ID cost basis data is unavailable.

Are others seeing the same thing, or is it something unique to my account?

My SpecID cost basis is showing for my taxable account at Vanguard.

I have a whopping $56 loss to take advantage of.

Damn, must only affect a subset of accounts. I have a joint account with my wife FWIW.

Here is what I see:

Seems to be back today...and didn't lose my TLH opportunity, so far!

I have to say that one downside to mutual funds vs. ETFs is the executing a TLH order. You kinda have to wait for the end of the day, and I actually just hacked up a spreadsheet with all of my positions so that I can figure in today's change in the price, to make sure I snag all the lots with a loss. Nice with ETFs you can just see them in real time.

Did you happen to check late at night?  Vanguard has some maintenance going on at night, and rarely I'll see information isn't shown while my account is being updated.  That may have changed - that was years ago.  In any event, I think cost basis info only gets updated once a day (even for ETFs).

A nice feature of ETFs: you can sell them in real time.  This week has lots of -3% days.  With ETFs, you know what happens if you buy or sell.  With a mutual fund, the market will keep moving for hours after your order is placed, and you get whatever the result is of those price moves.

This was all day yesterday during regular business hours.

My ETFs get cost basis updated in (mostly) real-time.
