Can you front-load an HSA before leaving company?
« on: April 28, 2020, 03:00:24 PM »
I'm about to leave my company where I have an HDHP with an HSA, and at my new company I will no longer have an HDHP. Am I allowed to max out the HSA for the full year before I leave? Or am I only allowed to contribute the prorated amount for the portion of the year I'm covered by an HDHP?

You're only allowed 1/12 of your overall limit for each month you're covered by an HSA eligible health insurance plan, so you can front load it before leaving employment up to that limit. See  https://thefinancebuff.com/hsa-contribution-limit-two-plans-mid-year-changes.html for more about calculating your allowed contribution.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
