calculating return on past period
« on: August 18, 2015, 05:18:51 PM »
I've been online for two hours, trying in vain to find my way...

For a project, I'm trying to provide a comparison. Is there a way for me to figure out what the returns on the following would have been, May 3, 2010 to December 31st, 2010:

VAB $10,000
VCN $30,000
VXC $60,000

Weighted Average MER .20%

Or something reasonably similar?
Or is the best one can do is view the returns for the S&P 500, then deduct that MER?

Canadian funds?

Normally I'd advise ETFreplay.com, but their Canadian ETFs are scarce.  You can also look up the daily historical prices on Yahoo Finance and work it out yourself.  However, from a quick check none of those funds existed in 2010 so that won't work.  Your best bet is probably to find comparable ETFs with more history from another provider.

Thank you, Tyler. I've had no internet between that post and now, so just getting back now.

Anyone know what some comparables might be? (Yep, Canadian.)
