Bond portion of portfolio - what fund(s)?
« on: January 08, 2015, 07:31:33 PM »
Hello all,

Currently I have a 20% allocation to bonds that I believe I will maintain indefinitely. Right now I have it in BNDX (10%) and TIP (10%). I'm curious as to what other use as the bond portion of the portfolio.

Are people going more for the long term bonds which will yield higher returns over time but can swing wildly, or are folks putting it in short term bond funds?

Why am I using the above 2? Because I just blindly followed this (10% each fund): http://assetbuilder.com/lazy_portfolios/Returns/couch_potato_portfolios/10_speed when I started and it seems reasonable. Also I can't use VTIP and SPDR Barclays International Treasury Bd that it mentions there because they're not ETFs and I don't have a vanguard acct and they're not available as 401k options.

Thanks.
