Boeing has serious culture issues that go beyond just the 737 Max and I won't touch their stock because of it.  Really good read if you want to understand how they got into this avoidable mess.

TLDR:  They used to have leadership in close communication with engineering.  Greedy leadership isolated mgmt in a different state and now there is a huge culture disconnect.  Instead of designing a new plane like they needed to and were well on the way to do, they took the short term gain solution that is now causing long term losses.

There will be no quick fix for this.  They MUST design a new aircraft.  Any software fix is a dangerous stopgap for a flawed design.

Full disclosure, I work for a competitor, but similar organization who works with Boeing Engineering.  We are face palming over Boeing's unforced error.
