Betterment Time-weighted Investment Returns Comparison Issue
« on: February 14, 2019, 02:03:18 PM »
I have a few questions about the graphic / comparison tool for the Betterment Time-weighted Investment returns.  I have added screen shots to depict my question.  Essentially when I opened the account in May of 2015, I picked the 90% Equity, 10% Bond Allocation, and have not changed that allocation since opening the account. When I compare the returns of my account to the Betterment 90% Stocks, there is a large divergence in the returns.  It appears that they matched each other until September 30, 2015, when there was a large drop in my account and no corresponding drop in the Betterment portfolio.  They then continue to “track”, albeit at different overall returns.  My understanding is that my portfolio should closely mirror the Betterment 90% Stocks as this is the allocation I have picked.  I also check to make sure there were no withdrawals during that period, and there were not.  There have been no withdrawals for the life of the account. Does anyone else have this issue, or can explain why this?  I was logging in to Betterment to actually transfer my account to Vanguard when I noticed this...

Bump.  Just checking to see if anyone else had this issue or had any ideas?  Betterment Support still hasn't gotten back to me...

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
