Best Financial News Subscription
« on: March 15, 2025, 07:51:32 AM »
I think that most sites are just click bait brain rot but now that seemingly averting is behind a paywall, I have been thinking about getting 1 subscription. This is mainly because I really like reading about the world of investing and is not about trying to find a hot new stock pick.
What have you found to be the most enjoyable/ helpful?

CNBC and Bloomberg TV are both free, and interview CEOs and investors.  You can start there, to keep up on the markets.
I'm not following any financial podcasts, but I've heard "odd lots" is popular.

Years ago I paid for two of the Motley Fool subscriptions at a discount.  I added their stock picks to a spreadsheet, and think they actually did have good results (including mistakes).  Their idea is to buy once and hold.  But then 2022 hit, and going against the market worked better for me than aggressive tech stocks.  I didn't renew it, but on a per month basis, it is probably reasonable.

That said, Motley Fool's website also has a lot of articles on investing, and they've setup an ETF ($TMFC) charging 0.50% expense ratio.

Whatever you get, they are often half off around Christmas.  Good for trying things out.

This year, I'm taking Bloomberg for a whirl.  Last year I got American Business Journals, looking for a local focus.  (For several cities)  But I didn't find a lot that was useful for me.

Free is a good price. You can subscribe by email to Money Stuff, a regular Bloomberg column by Matt Levine that explains two or three educational stories per day of financial news, without a paid Bloomberg subscription.

Here is a subscription link, and links to other free Bloomberg newsletters.

Barron's is excellent but watch out or it will cause you to think about buying individual stocks.  I had a temporary subscription through work which was somehow extended, accidentally, for about 10 years.  Barron's just noticed and cut me off in December.
