bad time to go to Golden Butterfly portfolio?
« on: June 25, 2020, 12:40:00 AM »
i've had the GB portfolio on my list of things to learn a lot more about for a year+ now.

i'm curious if now would be a bad time to allocate to this kind of portfolio given the performance of its components. it seems like gold has had a good run this year, so logic (assumed) seems to imply that there's downside here.

The whole point of the GB and portfolios like it is that they are designed to deliver more predictable growth to lessen the impact of entering it at a "bad" time.

I see nothing wrong with that portfolio (or others on the portfolio site) at any time. So now would be a good time.

If you are comfortable with the asset allocation it provides, why wait? Who can say what gold (or anything else) will do six months from now? Gold might be down, but large cap might be up. That's the point of asset allocation: knowing that at any point one of your investments might be down, but overall your average return will increase year to year.
