Best place for a low-risk investment
« on: April 29, 2018, 10:31:33 AM »
We have accounts right now with Ally/Vanguard/Chase/USAA/Fidelity. Account proliferation...

Anyways, I am planning on putting a larger chunk of cash into an account somewhere but am not sure where. Current leading winners are more in Ally (1.5% APR) or something like Vanguard's money market fund.

Are there better options than either of those within the companies we already have accounts with?

Vote for Vanguard Money Market.

Super liquid and yields 1.8% and climbing. Also may be better tax wise versus CD or bank savings account.

I'd look at the municipal money market, 1.54%. No need for anything below that. 1.97% equivalent at 22% marginal rate.

Check at bankrate.com. You can get a better rate on a CD if you are not planning to touch the money for a while.
