Index funds for taxable accounts
« on: May 18, 2015, 12:21:08 PM »
I know this has to have been discussed before, but it's a hard thing to search for, so my apologies.  Just looking for a forum/blog post to get me started on the topic, if someone could point me in the right direction.  I'm starting to have enough in my taxable brokerage account to want to look into how I should be handling it from a tax perspective.  Right now it's all getting dumped into an S&P index fund (PREIX), but that might not be the best option.  I haven't had to deal with the tax portion of anything yet, don't want to paint myself into a corner early on, and just not sure where to start on reading up on it.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks!  I always forget about the Bogleheads Wiki as a resource.  Not done reading but sounds like I'm probably ok with holding an S&P500 index fund in my taxable account.

Many do.  One gets spoiled in tax-advantaged accounts, but the tax bite from well-managed index funds isn't the worst thing in the world.
