I have 2 savings bonds I purchased when in the Army in Iraq back in 2005 and 2006. Bought them both for $500 and the interest rate is 3.2%.
They've returned exactly that (surprise) and now they're worth around $1750 total between the two.
I purchased early on in life when I didn't have much. Now it's a drop in the bucket.
Does it make sense to sell and just roll into VTSAX? Any reason to keep them? They're not really doing anything for me at this point.
Yes, sell.
Other bonds (or bond ETFs, or even CDs) can be bought at better rates, so selling seems like no-brainer.
If VTSAX is your chosen allocation, great.
I'm in the minority camp that keeps thinking high rates will bring recession, so for now bonds or even "cash"/money markets followed by stock purchase after market drop is better than just buying stock, but I'm not here to proselytize. Just mentioning it bc the VTSAX part of the question appears to ask "Is stock better than these bonds?" and my best, though nonstandard, guess is "Usually, but right now bonds might be temporarily better than stock". I'm no expert on that part though! Invest the proceeds with whatever allocation you think is best.
