401k question
« on: September 09, 2014, 09:02:26 AM »
When I started my job a few years ago I allocated my 401k investments into ~4 different funds. After some reading I want to sell all of those positions and put them and any new investments into an index fund. Will selling the old positions cause any taxes or other issues?

No tax concerns presented.  One of the essential beauties of the 401k is that transactions within it are not taxable.

As for "other issues," it is unlikely if you bought "a few years ago," but some funds have restrictions on timing of selling/buying to prevent perceived abuses related to market timing.  Varies among plans, but you should not have a problem.
