401K options for soon-to-retire mother
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:28:26 AM »
My mother is now eligible to invest in her company 401K plan, which gives a 4% match.  She plans to retire in the next 4-5 years.  She has asked my advice on what's the best investment option for her 401K.  The company offers a target date portfolio, or you a build your own option.  401K will go though John Hancock.  I'm tempted to tell her just do the target date option, since she tends to run towards more conservative with her investments, and is pretty much already set for retirement at this point (NW is around $1.6M) and this option won't require any extra work on her part.

Just wanted to run it by some of you more savvy investors to get your opinion.
