[CAN] XAW Eft price seems off today.
« on: November 26, 2018, 03:42:15 PM »
Anyone else notice XAW IShares ETF seemed off today?
The underlying assets like XEF, XEC, and the US stock index is way up yet XAW is down.
A similar ETF is Vanguards VXC, finished at 1.12% higher where XAW finished down. 0.53%.

I have watched XAW daily for some time, and this is a first where it seemed to move differently compared to the underlying assets and VXC.

I noticed it as well.  No clue as to why.

Yeah! I saw this as well! Weird! I just emailed Dan Bortoloti of the canadian couch potato about this just before seeing that tread...

I'll let you know if he answers me about this!

I'd be interested to know what you learn. As with probably most Canadians in this forum, I mostly follow the Canadian Couch Potato model... so I hold a lot of XAW!

Reply from Dan Bortoloti of CCP:

It's hard to know why two similar ETFs can show very different price movements on the same day. It almost never has anything to do with the composition of the fund (e.g. more small caps, etc.). It may be have to do with the announcement or payment of dividends; sometimes it's just a stale quote from the brokerage. It should wash out almost immediately, so it isn't anything to worry about unless you happen to be placing a large trade that day.

Stranger still - I tried doing a comparison chart and the two showed only minor discrepancies on that day.  Nothing to indicate a 1.5% spread.  Must've been a breach in the curtain-wall that is reality ...
