Suggestion: politics subforum
« on: May 19, 2016, 12:20:46 PM »
Problem: right now, there is only "off topic" to cover any political discussions. This leads to threads like this one which get moderator warnings for going off topic.

According to the moderator note, there apparently are many threads doing this (going into political discussions).

Proposal: Add a politics subforum in "other." This will allow discussions centered primarily on politics in one location and allow more easy distinguishing between "politically related but not really politics" threads and those.

And put it on another forum altogether.

Stormfront, maybe.  I never go there.

Maybe an "Arguments" subforum? :)  It could cater to everything from who should use what bathrooms, to what specific articles and pronouns can be used to refer to your spouse, to whether panhandling millionaires is cool or not, to whether a poster should put up with XYZ from their SO.

This.

I'd only modify the title to "Argue Away..."

It's been suggusted many times, for example we coukd really use a Canadian sub forum but the powers that be don't seem to want to do that.

How about the prediction that most of this noise will go away once the US political season is over?

Also I'm not sure how that would magically make any particular topic suddenly not drift into politics, could you run that one by me again?

I belong to a couple other forums and they all have politics subforums that are invisible to those not registered, and that require subsequent approval to enter.  The subsequent approval is usually along the lines of "things can get nasty here, deal with it or don't go in."  It seems the two major approaches are "no politics anywhere" or the subforum.

That was a very promising thread topic, I was sorry to see it devolve to politics. I will retire January 2017 and what health insurance might look like if Trump takes office occupies a lot of my worry time.

Proposal: Add a politics subforum in "other." This will allow discussions centered primarily on politics in one location and allow more easy distinguishing between "politically related but not really politics" threads and those.

And it could be subtitled “The Smoking Crater”.
