Incorrect Password issues
« on: June 09, 2019, 01:45:30 AM »
Not sure if anyone else has had this issue, but-

I had an issue recently where the forum wouldn't let me log in, telling me my password was incorrect. I managed to go through the password reset process, setting the same password, and it worked and let me in again.

Today I had the same issue, same password, but it said it was incorrect again. This time I set it to a slightly different password (we'll see if that makes a difference), and it works again.

I'm pretty sure I had the right password, and tried it multiple times - anyone know what might be going on here?

Making some guesses here since you didn't say what operating system(s) you are trying this from:  clear the cache on the browser making sure to purge any saved passwords (unless of course there's a site somewhere that you no longer have the password to and this is your only way in), close any Windows explorer windows you have open, maybe restart the PC/tablet/phone if it's been a long time.  Then try again.  That works in most situations.

If you've signed on on multiple PCs/pieces of equipment, it's possible that you have a session open somewhere you've forgotten about.  This may be holding the old info and when it has a chance to sync up with whatever browser session you're using now, it's conflicting with all the work you've been trying to do to clear and reset the password.

Adding a possible layer of conflict, I think there's an MMM app out there.  If you have that open somewhere, it could do the same thing with holding old credentials in an session that's conflicting with the session you're using to try to reset and login to the site.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Win7 for the most part. I haven't used the MMM app, and I don't tend to have more than one computer on at the same time accessing the MMM forum. I'll experiment a bit if it happens again.

Glad to know I'm not the only one still using Win7 these days!  I'm fairly aggressive about clearing the cache on my browser as a work habit (I test web sites for a living and need to switch between logins cleanly) and so I don't have many issues with password changes personally.  That and restarting seems to make happy both Windows and the browsers I tend to use, Chrome or IE.  Occasionally, there's a bit of a lag in synching up multiple domain servers which can also hose things but I doubt that'd be the case in your situation.  Just sounds like the computer gods messing with you!  :)
