Greetings friends!
We'll be doing some maintenance over the next few weeks to improve forum performance. Due to this we will have some scheduled downtime, which I will try to announce here ahead of time.
Right now we have two times scheduled:
Monday, April 8 at 7PM EDT
Tuesday, April 9 at Noon EDT
We hope these changes will allow much quicker and more reliable forum access.
Please contact me with any questions.
Cheers!

Good to know. Though with all the unplanned downtime, I'm not sure that I will notice the real downtime :-)
@arebelspy have you considered trying to monitor forum uptime at all to quantify any impact? Is that data something you'd be interested in seeing? At this point it's pretty straightforward to setup some type of monitoring which could be useful information.

Do you know how long for each downtime window? It might be helpful to post that if known/estimated.
@ender is really smart. If he offers to help, I vote yes. :)
-
I would anticipate a few hours. Some major upgrades/testing.

Well I setup a ping to try downloading the root of the forums every 30 minutes. So hopefully I get an alert or two during the upgrades :-)

Works fine for the most part but can be sluggish at times. Wishing you guys can bump it up to a newer and mobile-friendly version with responsive design... hate having to install Tapatalk just to browse. Good luck!

If someone googles SMF mobile theme, wants to look through and research one, I'm willing to install it as an option you can set in your forum settings.

Current work is completed. Please let me know if you are still experiencing forum issues!

Thank gods the forums are back! I almost had to do work while at work today.

Not only back, but so far quite zippy. Thank you forum gods!
Was it new hardware, reindexing, culling the database, something else?
-
Newer SQL version, change to database storage type, increasing number of connections, and database optimization. A few removal of features no one used but chewed up database space (and lookup times). Enabling an accelerator and more caching. A few other things, but that was the bulk of it.

We are grateful.

Thank you. It seems to be much faster now.

Thanks Joe. This, as well as the clean up a few weeks ago, has really improved the performance of the site.
Since I FIRE'ed, I would be glad to help if there are any specific things you need to do. One word of caution, I am an old Unix/Linux hand and do not know any of that Microsoft stuff.

ARS, did you have any volunteers to investigate a mobile skin? Is this still a possibility?
-
Thanks so much for these upgrades. The site has been working flawlessly the last two days.

No, and yes.
Any time anyone wants to volunteer to help, it is appreciated. :)
Regarding that request in particular:

Seems faster (the "new replies to your posts" is how I normally navigate and that's faster).
-
Late to this party, but chiming in to say thanks. The improved performance and new features are very much appreciated.
