Hi,
I'd really like to read more MMM journals but I'm not sure of the best way to dig in to read an existing journal.
Primarily I will find, for example, that the most recently updated journal was perhaps started in 2017. So the first post will be their introductory page about where their life was in 2017, then a bunch of replies, then an update from the OP, then more replies, and unless I dig through the many pages and follow the whole thing through I won't understand the most recent update.
Perhaps journals are more intended for users the person already knows as opposed to more casual readers who just want to read and learn from other's experiences?
One thought I had is: is it possible to search just for OONI journals (see: https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/journals/new-journal-policy-sticky-post!/ )?
Thanks for any suggestions or tips!

I’ve not come across any OONI journals.

It is really hard to jump into a big journal with a lot of banter. I usually just go for the new or shorter journals, or I just read five years behind.

Some users will keep their opening post updated regularly to summarize and give a new reader an entry point.

It's more cumbersome than it could be, but if I'm really interested, I just go to that journalist's posts (under their profile) and track their own entries in their journal.  Skips a lot of others' comments but perhaps more work than you want.

Thank you for these great ideas! I've started an OONI journal but it does feel weird to have two... an OONI and an interactive so I understand why most people just have one. Please keep sharing or posting here if you have an OONI or other suggestions!

What does OONI mean?

I assume it's not Open Observatory of Network Interference or any of the silly things urban dictionary has.

Thanks!

When I tried to go to that linked post, I only saw the 404 error message "Not Found
The requested URL /journals/new-journal-policy-sticky-post!/) was not found on this server."

Yeah, the trailing ) is added to the url unfortunately :-)

One suggestion would be to look for the shorter journals (smaller numbers of pages). The ones that are 40+ or 50+ pages tend to have a lot of banter and side conversations and in-jokes among friends, which is cool, but it can be harder for a stranger to find an entry point.

Or, if I read a really good post by someone and I want to hear more from them, I'll look up their post history and see if they have a journal. If it's a big one, I usually read the last few pages to see where they're at now, then skip back to the beginning, and read the parts in between if and when I find the time.

As a person who is shocked to have managed to keep up a journal for over three years, I can't see the point of a non-interactive journal. I have benefitted so much from the perspectives, advice and wisdom posts in my journal by other members. Sometimes there are even independent conversations in my journal, which I love. It's as if I created a really comfortable salon that people want to hang out in. Also, I have a personal bias against people who want to use this forum exclusively for their own navel gazing. Offering useful help to others seems like cheap rent for the ability to journal here.

A lot of journals have very minimal interaction from others, fwiw.
