Forum migration - quoting problem? And avatar?
« on: February 23, 2017, 11:35:33 PM »
Hi, just thought I'd pop a note up here in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Since the forum migration earlier tonight, I am having trouble quoting.  It's fine it I *start* my reply with a quote, but if I start a reply, then decide I want to quote a previous post, or if I want to quote more than one previous post in a reply, then I'm finding that the "insert quote" button doesn't do anything.

Edited to say:  Oh, and also, I can't see my own avatar on my posts, just a black box with an X.  But I asked over in the journal threads and it sounds like others can see me.  Not a huge deal (except existentially) but any suggestions on how to fix?

I see no avatars on any posts. All gone. My avatar disappeared too. Not even an X to mark the spot...

And trying to add it back gets me an error: The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

Not sure about quoting. Give me a moment... yeah, "insert quote" does nada.

I'm having issues with "insert quote", and I can see people's avatars on my phone, but not on my desktop computer.

Is forum migration what happened?  Well, I'm ignorant.  I just saw that it was down last night and the night before.

I don't see Anatidae V's and Frankies Girl's avatars, though I remember them existing previously.  If it helps, I am using a laptop running Linux Mint 17.3 and FireFox 51.0.1.

"Insert Quote" just resets my view of the reply screen so that the words "Post reply" are perfectly at the top.  (Darn it; I used to know the name for that sort of same-page link!)

All the avatars are back!  Yay!  Now I remember that I have seen PJ's before.

Insert Quote is still no-go.

Hey everyone!  I did the migration last night to the new server.  I'm working on resolving any remaining issues.

The Avatars should be back, issue was a setting that was looking for the avatars in the old server location.

In the meantime, enjoy the new speed and please let me know if you run into any further problems!

Yay!  I feel real again...

And yes, as WTH said, "insert quote" still isn't working, but it's great to know that someone is working on fixing things.  Thanks, clackapedia, for updating us.  And thanks for managing the migration to the new server.  If it means no more blackout periods, then the short term loss of the forums is well worth it!  And thanks, also, to MMM and all the admin/mod types who do so much to provide us with this great online community!

Problem that is probably obvious to others:
For some new topics, there are a lot of duplicates being created.  Click on Show unread posts since last visit. to see.  For example, right now a few topics by Glenstache titled "The Concept of Progress" pop up.  I reported shelleyvdp's new topics re a 16 YO seeking fire as duplicates before I realized how widespread it was.
