Hide/block specific user's posts?
« on: May 16, 2015, 10:38:30 PM »
Is there a way to hide a specific user's posts? On vBulletin forum software there is an "Add to Ignore List" feature hides the post contents of that particular user. It'd make it easier for me to avoid getting baited into arguments with a semi-troll that showed up last month...

I thought about doing this too. Makes me sad to click on a thread now when I see who's posting.

It just seems like you lose context with any sort of 'hide user'.  Yeah... I know... it can be frustrating.  I think the best method is to just read it and not reply.  (And yes, I don't always follow my own advice.)

Mod Note: If you find that any one is tolling and violates our forum rules:http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/forum-information-faqs/forum-rules/ Please use the "report to mod" function, or send any one of us a PM - with links and details. Our number 1 rule is "Don't be a jerk" which gives us a fair amount of latitude - if we know something is going on.

When no specific rules are being broken but someones majority of interactions within the community are negative, we  build up a history that shows a pattern of behaviour before we ban.

Thank you! This works perfectly.

Yeah, that's pretty much what prompted this. I started reading a thread created by this user without realizing it until I was about halfway down the page... I don't always look at the username of who is posting something.

Just tested this feature. It replaces the user's post with a message that says: "You are ignoring this user. Show me the post." (the last part is a link that temporarily unhides that specific post). Also, I still see the content when other people quote that user.

Thanks. I don't think this particular user has broken any rules... But I also don't think anything positive is coming from their posts. At least, I feel there is no benefit for me in reading them.
