Deleting vs locking threads?
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:10:27 AM »
I'm not sure where to pose this question but it looks as though a thread I was posting on - and interested to see responses on - just got deleted. Is there a reason for that instead of locking the thread? I guess I'm assuming that administrators deleted it, but maybe the thread owner did. Not sure.

I had actually wanted to go re-read some of the earlier posts and feel that it's a shame that that's no longer possible.

Threads are almost always locked, never deleted.

I can see which thread you're talking about (since it goes to a "Recycle Bin" of sorts that can be seen by the Mods, and restored if necessary), so I'll check with the other mods and see if it was one of them that deleted it, and why.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Thanks for checking. I wasn't sure if somehow the subject matter had gotten overheated so someone decided better to get rid of it? I thought the dialogue was actually OK after the mod posted in the thread but maybe not.

The only ones I've seen deleted are where the OP is an outright spam or troll account

Posting so I can easily see the answer.  I too, was closely following that thread and though that it was a good discussion.

It was the "Distressed baby" thread. OP emailed me with concerns as it had gotten off topic and the tone was very angry. He was wondering if he should delete it. I said that was his choice, or I could lock it for him. He chose to delete it.

(Looking at the latest few posts, it seems like it was time for it to end anyways. People said their piece, and there wasn't a lot of positive interactions going on anymore.)

That topic was definitely one of the most heated discussion i've seen on MMM.  Sorry that it came to deletion but so mote it be.
