I'm not super familiar with SMF forums but I do know you can install mods into it.

Can we get one which allows you to unsubscribe to threads that show up in "show new replies" somehow so they don't show there? I have a few threads there which I very foolishly posted in several years ago and I cannot get them off that view now. I suspect others have similar frustrations as I do.

Something like this would work - http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1193 but I assume there are more specific ones for this use case?

Some of the threads I either cannot find the post (50+ pages) or have and am not able to stop them from appearing.

That's a bad solution. Nothing worse than reading through a thread with missing images or quotes to dead posts.

Not to mention this aspect.

I think what kills you is if someone replies to your post, too. Though I'm not 100% sure as it's a complete pain to search for specific posts in threads which are 50+ pages.

It's not a good solution, but it's what we've had to do so far. This request has been made multiple times in the past so maybe I'm just pessimistic that something will be done about it.

In the mean time, I find it easier to search my own post history for the thread than to search the thread history for my post, if that makes sense.

Isn't this kind of throwing the baby out with the bath water?  An unsubscribing option would be great, but then I have no idea how complicated it would be.

Apparently there is at least one add-in that does this, but the overhead would be too large on a forum of our size. Arebelspy has previously stated he hopes this becomes a native feature of the SMF software in the future. A native solution would not have as large a performance penalty as the add-in method.

Some previous threads discussing this:

http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/is-there-a-way-to-'un-follow'-a-thread/

Also, I found this (from one of the previous threads) entertaining:

Sometimes I post on a thread, and that thread ends up in a downward spiral on stuff I don't care to read about (whether that's how taxation is allegedly slavery or theft, gun rights, etc).

Nothing new under the sun. :-)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
